Holterberg
The Holterberg forms the southern side of National Park the Sallandse Heuvelrug and on top of the hill, you can find a pleasant square with different cafes and restaurants, a play forest, miniature golf, nature diorama Holterberg and the Bos of Daantje Das (Daantje Das forest). It is also the ideal starting point for hiking and biking. Both the routes Pieterpad and Marskramerpad run across the Holterberg, as well as the world-time-path, a walking experience covering history, runs across the Holterberg.
The Holterberg is renowned for its large height differences and beautiful views. It is like Mecca to walkers and bikers going along fixed routes. There is also a special route for ATB-riders.
At less than 800 metres from the camp site, you will find a very special piece of Canadian soil, the Holten Canadian War Cemetery, or Canadian Cemetery. Here, 1,394 soldiers are buried, who died during the liberation of the north and east part in the Netherlands. Since a number of years, an information centre has been added to the cemetery where the stories, anecdotes and photos of as many soldiers as possible are being collected.
